R1 = 4 FULL SHELLS
R2 = 5 V STITCHES
R3 = 3 FULL SHELLS AND HALF SHELL EACH SIDE AT BEGINNING AND END OF ROW.
R4 = 4 V STITCHES
R5 = 4 FULL SHELLS.

Photo below shows how to count the rows of shells.

Finishing (F) Rows:
Stop when there are 20 rows of shells. The count should start at the first rows of full shells in R1.

Repeat R4. Then do more v-stitches as follows:
R1(F):Ch3, *skip next ch-2 sp, dc on next ch-2 sp; ch2, dc on same ch-2 sp.  Ch1, dc on next sc, ch2, dc on same sc, ch1.*  Repeat until there are 7 V-stitches.  End with ch2, dc on first chain of turning chain.

R2(F):  Ch5, * skip next ch-2 spp, dc on next ch-2 sp; ch2, dc on same sp.  Ch2 *  Repeat * * until there are 7 V-Stitiches.  End with ch2, dc on 2nd ch of turning chain.

R3(F):  Repeat R2(F)

R4(F):  Shells Without Beads:
Ch3, * sk next ch-2 sp, 3dc on next ch-2 sp, ch1, 3dc on same sp, ch1.*  Repeat * * until there are 7 shells.  End with ch2, sl (slip stitch) on 2nd chain of turning chain.  Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail.

R4(FB):  Shells With Beads:
Ch3, * sk next ch-2 sp, 3dc on next ch-2 sp, attach bead (SEE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW); 3dc on same sp, ch1.* Repeat * * until there are 7 shells with beads.  End with ch2, sl (slip stitch) on 2nd chain of turning chain.  Fasten off leaving an 8 inch tail.

HOW TO ATTACH A BEAD:
After making the three dc for the shell stitch, withdraw the hook from the loop; using a small crochet hook (2.75mm), pick up the bead, then insert it into the vacated loop.  Draw this loop into the bead then make ch1 to close the stitch.  Withdraw the small hook and reinsert the big hook into the vacated loop and resume the instructions for completing the shell stitch as written in R4(FB) instructions.  SEE VIDEO.

Making The Other Half Of The Scarf:  NOTE: TURN WORK RIGHT SIDE UP.
Attach the remainder of the yarn on the first  stitch of the first chained loop of the foundation loops which was made at the beginning of the project. Leave 8 inch tail.  SEE VIDEO ON HOW TO ATTACH THE YARN.

Follow all the pattern instructions as written for making the half of the scarf.

Use a yarn needle or tapestry needle with blunted end to hide the tails.  FOR TIPS ON HOW TO HIDE TAILS, PLEASE READ THIS
