Rows Of Shells Scarf

Yarn: Caron Simply Soft, 6 oz./315/yds. (1 skein for short scarf or 2 skeins for long scarf)
Crochet Hook: Boye 5.00mm
Tapestry Needle


Stitches Used:
Sc = Single crochet
Dc= Double crochet
Ch= Chain
Sp = Space
Sk = Skip


 Rows of Shells Scarf

The Pattern:


Ch 42


(Shell) R1: 3dc on 7th ch/st from hook, catching one loop of the chain only.  Ch1, 3 dc on same st; ch1 sk 4 sts (stitches), sc on two loops of next st.  NOTE: ONE FULL SHELL MADE.
* Ch1, sk 4 sts, 3dc on next  (one loop only) stitch; ch1, 3dc on same st.  Ch1, sk next 4 sts, sc on 2 loops of next st.* NOTE: ANOTHER FULL SHELL MADE. Repeat * * until there are four full shells.


(V Stitch) R2: Ch4, dc on 5th st from hook, * ch2, sc on 2 loops (facing away from you) of next ch-1.  NOTE:  ONE V STITCH MADE.  Ch2, dc on next sc; ch2, dc on same sc.*
NOTE SECOND V STITCH IS MADE.  Repeat * * until there are 5 V stitches.  EXCEPTION:  ON THE LAST V STITICH, MAKE A 1 CHAIN (INSTEAD OF 2) BETWEEN THE DC POSTS THAT MAKES UP THE V STITCH.


(Shell) R3:  NOTE: THIS ROW IS MADE UP OF 3 FULL SHELLS AND HALF SHELL AT EACH SIDE.  Ch3, 2 dc on next ch-1 sp.  NOTE: ONE HALF SHELL MADE.  Ch1, sc on next sc; ch1, sk next ch-2; 3dc on next ch-2 sp.  *Ch1, sc on next sc, ch1, sk next ch-2 sp. 3 dc on next ch-2 sp. EXCEPTION:  OMIT INSTRUCTIONS INSIDE BRACKET IF THIS IS THE END OR ROW
[Ch1, 3dc on same sc]. * NOTE: THREE FULL SHELLS AND TWO HALF SHELLS AT BEGNNING AND ENDING OF ROW MADE.  Turn.


(V Stitch) R4:  Ch3, dc on next sc. Ch2, dc on same sc.  NOTE: FIRST V STITCH ON THIS ROW IS MADE.  * Ch2, sc on next 2 loops (facing away from you) of next ch-1; ch2, dc on next sc.  Ch2, dec on same sc.*  NOTE: SECOND V STITCH IS MADE.  Repeat * * until there are 4 V stitches.  End with ch2, sc on 2nd ch of turning chain.  Turn.


(Shell) R5:  Ch3, sk next ch-2 sp; 3dc on next ch-2 sp. Ch1, 3 dc on same sp. Ch1, sc on next sc.  NOTE:  ONE FULL SHELLS IS MADE. * Ch1, sk next ch-2 sp, 3dc on next ch-2 sp. Ch1, 3dc on same sp. Ch1, sc on next sc.* Repeat * * until there are 4 full shells.  End with ch1, and sc on the 1st ch of turning chain.  Turn.


R6 and remaining rows:  Repeat row 2 to row 5 over and over again until desired length is met.


TIP: TO RECOGNIZE WHICH ROW INSTRUCTIONS NEED TO BE FOLLOWED TO MAKE THE NEXT ROW, SEE BELOW.


R1 = 4 FULL SHELLS
R2 = 5 V STITCHES
R3 = 3 FULL SHELLS AND HALF SHELL EACH SIDE AT BEGINNING AND END OF ROW.
R4 = 4 V STITCHES
R5 = 4 FULL SHELLS.
