Crocheted Flower Photo Tutorial-- Round 1

Before Showing the steps for making Round 1 of the flower, I thought I'd show you how to make a slip knot using the crochet hook:

Step 1:  Hold the hook against the yarn as shown.  Note that the tip of the hook is pointing up.

Step 2: Rotate the tip of the hook so that it points down.  Note that the yarn is twisted.

Step 3:  Continue to rotate the tip of the hook so that the tip is pointing up.

Step 4:  Hold the yarn where it is twisted and make sure that the loop on hook is loose as shown on photo.

Step 5:  Yo once as shown

Step 6:  Draw up a loop through the loop on hook as shown on photo

Step 7:  Use the hook to tug on the knot and pull it tight.  This closes the slip knot.

Step 8:  Adjust the loop on hook by tightening or loosening as needed to begin crocheting.  The loop on hook can be loosened by using the crochet hook to pull away from the knot and it can be tightened by pulling the working end of the yarn (not the tail end of yarn) away from the hook.  At this point you are ready to begin making the foundation chains of any crochet project.

Round 1:  How to make the center of the flower

Step 1:  After making the slip knot as shown above, ch4

Step 2:  Insert hook on 4th ch from hook

Step 3:  Yo once (ready to make a slip stitch (slst)

Step 4:  Draw up the loop through the 4th chain where hook was inserted and through the one loop on hook.
Slip stitch is made and a ring is also made.

Step 5:  Ch2 This count as one extended single crochet (esc).

Step 6:  Find the center of the ring by pulling the sides of the circle then insert hook in the center of the ring.  Ready to make extended single crochet or esc.

Step 7:  Yo once

Step 8:  Draw up a loop so that there are 2 loops on hook

Step 9:  Yo again

Step 10:  Draw up through only one loop on hook.

Step 11:  Yo again

Step 12:  Draw up through 2 loops on hook this time.  An esc is completed.  Repeat steps 6 to 12 to make a total of 11 esc plus the initial two chains (ch2) at the beginning of this round.

Step 13:   End the round by a slst. on 2nd chain of ch2.
Step 14:  Pull the slst tight to close the stitch and cut a one and half inch tail.

Step 15:  Turn the work wrong side out and clip remainders of the tail which was hidden within the esc stitches.

Photo shows the finish center of the flower.  Ready to begin Round 2
